I loved the banter and romance between Saffron and Cylvan. The characters are captivating and the plot was entertaining.

Unwilling to allow others to have such power over him, Cylvan agrees to endorse Saffron if he manages to find a way to strip the power from his name. Saffron accidently discovers Cylvan’s true name. Therefore, he’s doing whatever he can to be granted an academic endorsement as that would enable him to stay. Unfortunately, the moment is getting close when he will have to return to the human world, even though he has no attachment to that realm at all. Saffron has grown up behind the veil, protected by the Fae who took him and is now a servant to the Morrígan Accademy. Prince of the Sorrows tells the tale of a human man desperately trying to remain in the Fairy world.

But this was strictly a standalone book, which made me question why we were given so much for it to result in so little. We’re given a ton of introductions to really, really interesting characters and plot and worlds, but it leads to absolutely nothing. I really wanted to know more! Instead, we just get to know the “bad” characters. We get a lot of foreshadowing for other elements in this book, and that was interesting. The relationship between Annaleigh and Cassius was cute, but it didn’t really pique my interest. I feel like it could have just been a really good crime/mystery story and I would have really enjoyed it. I don’t think it needed all of the extra things that were introduced. My biggest gripe with this story is that it should have been a mystery. When Annaleigh’s involvement with a mysterious stranger who has secrets of his own intensifies, it’s a race to unravel the darkness that has fallen over her family-before it claims her next. Because who-or what-are they really dancing with?
